Ok so most everyone knows that HP only allowed its first party charger to be used, despite having a USB C plug. HP claimed it was because they were waiting for a Power Delivery standard to get worked out, and that they would allow for 3rd party chargers once it had. Well it's now 2020, and I can still only use a 3rd party charger when the computer is off. Is HP going to ever make good on their promise or are they just ignoring it? I am on BIOS f.24 released in 2020, so I don't understand why they're writing firmware that recently and still haven't followed through. Have I just not unlocked something or is it still HP?

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

  • Are you getting any error message or code while using 3rd party charger?

HP does not recommend to use Third-party hardware and parts as they are not tested by HP and may not be accurate, however, you could change the configuration at your own discretion.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

No error messages.  When I plug it in, nothing happens. If the computer is turned off, it will charge. The power delivery charger I'm using is capable of all the same voltage and amp output as my OEM HP charger.

Let's try this out:

1. Go to Start, search for Device Manager, and open this result.

2. Expand batteries.

3. Right-click on the ACPI option (usually the 2nd option) and select delete or uninstall. Follow the prompts.

4. Shut down the computer.

5. Disconnect the charger.

6. Remove the battery.

7. Hold down the power button for 1 minute.

8. Insert the battery only.

9. Attempt to turn the battery on.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

The battery cannot easily be removed from the Pavilion X2 without disassembling the tablet, it is built in. I have uninstalled ACPI and shut down the computer. Upon restart, the 3rd party charger still does not work.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help,

Firstly, perform Windows Update and HP Support Assistant: (do not skip any troubleshooting steps if you feel steps are repeating)

To check for updates now, select the Start button, and then go to Settings  > Update & security  > Windows Update, and select Check for updates.

Install updates from HP Support Assistant: Go to Download HP Support Assistant to install the tool.

  1. To open HP Support Assistant, double-click the HP Support Assistant icon https://support.hp.com/doc-images/932/c05040382.jpg.
  2. Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.
  3. Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.
  4. Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.
  5. Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.
  6. Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.

And, also run BIOS Update: Follow steps from the link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c00042629

BIOS version is f.24, the latest for my device. Windows update is current. HP Support found a system utility as an update, it has been installed, and computer restarted. The 3rd party charger still does not work while computer is on.
