Slate 7 1800 tablet

I inherited several Slate 7 1800 tablets when I bought my business. They are probably five years old. Recently I attempted to download Google Photos onto them and was unsuccessful. Prior to that I had been using Picasa with no problems. So I am wanting to know if there are any OS updates for these tablets? Or in lieu of that, any ideas why they will not accept Google Photos when they had no problems with Picasa?

Hi @Hawky77,

Welcome to the HP Forums!

Thank you for posting your query in this forum, it's a great place to find answers.

I reviewed your post and I understand that you are having issues installation google photos on your tablet and you wanted to know whether there are any software updates for your tablet.

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

I checked the details of your tablet and see that Android Nougat is available for your tablet. If you are using an older version of Android Google photos may not be compatible with the OS.

You can download the software from the below link.

7. In the Android system recovery menu, use the Volume down button to scroll to "update / recover from SD card," and then press the Power button to select.

6. Press and hold the Volume Up button and Power button at the same time. When the Android system recovery menu appears on the screen, release the buttons.

5. Insert the microSD card containing the update.zip file into the card reader on the tablet.

4. Power off the tablet.

2. Copy the update.zip file to the root folder of a microSD card. Do not unzip the file.

11. In the system recovery menu, highlight the option "reboot system now," and then press the Power button to reboot the system.

12. The tablet reboots. The recovery process is complete, and a new version of the Android operating system is installed on the tablet.

Hi--I have attempted the fix as you suggested but it did not work. After installing the "updated" OS the tablet was exactly as it was before and I was still unable to download Google Photos. So I am very sure I followed your instructions carefully and the tablet did undergo a reboot process, but it was not updated. So here is my question: when I went to the HP page to download the update, the details of the update stated that it was to restore the image for the Jelly Bean OS but it does not say that it will replace it with the Nougat OS. Is there another download that I need to accomplish to replace the Jelly Bean OS with Nougat?

Hi--I have done some more research about these tablets and apparently they are different than the Slate 7 tablets I thought they were. According to the serial number and the HP website, they are called the HP 7 1800 tablet, a slightly different version of the tablet. So I went to the software and driver page and downloaded the update for this tablet thinking that it would update the Jellybean OS to Nougat but it did not. The tablet once again went through a reboot but remained the same as before the update. So I am completely confused.

Hi The_Fossette...I have tried the update two more times with no success so I went to the phone support option and have been on hold for more than an hour. But I am determined to speak with someone and resolve this issue so I will wait. Thank you for all of your help. Maybe it is possible that these tablets cannot be upgraded to Nougat. We shall see...

Hi The_Fossette--Well, I have tried three times to get through to HP phone support and have given up each time after waiting for more than two hours each time. I do not think there is anyone there to be honest. So I thought I would ask you is there any way for me to initiate a chat with a support agent? I cannot find that option anywhere on the website and I do not wish to call them anymore. Thank you for your help...

Greetings @Hawky77, I am the @Chimney_83. It looks like you were interacting with @The_Fossette, but he is out of the office today so I'll take over from here.

I understand that you would like to know if there is a chat support available for your tablet, is that right?

Chat support might not be available for all products and regions.

If you could let me know the region you are located in, I might be able to check and assist you.

Keep me posted.

Hi Chimney 83--I did not see this until this morning. I live in Hawaii. I have given up on HP phone support because I have been on hold up to three hours and nothing so I am going to call the resolution team and see if I can get some help. This is becoming ridiculous.
