Having now managed to get the tablet to restart, I now am faced with the issue that, as part of the reset process, the tablet is attempting to connect to a server which may now be inactive so a Server Error is reported. End-users are re-directed to http://hpwebos.com/support to help resolve the problem - this site does not appear to exist so I am caught in a startup loop.
Is there anyway to break the cycle and disable the web check on initial startup to allow the reset process to complete?

Freqently asked and answered...the webOS servers were shut down by HP a few years ago after giving registered owners several months' notice. So, there is no restoring your data or purchased apps from any webOS profile you might have had.
There is a link in this thead, to information about bypassing the normal webOS startup in the aftermath of the webOS server shut-down. Unfortunately, it seems that a lot of the links from that article are no longer valid.
You could explore installing Android on your TouchPad. And there is a newer LuneOS which you can also explore installing. But I haven't done it, so cannot offer any insight or directions.
