HP Spectre Touchpad disable. Go to the windows search screen, type in mouse, go to mouse and touchpad, go all the to the bottom. Click on "additional mouse options". Go to Click Pad Settings and check box "Disable internal pointing device when external USD pointing device is attached" . Of course this only works it you have a USB mouse. As soon as you unplug it from the USB port the touchpad can be used.

What version of Windows are you using?  I'm using 8.1, and the options you describe are not available in the "Mouse and Touchpad" screen.

I have Windows 10.

Here's how I disabled the touchpad anytime an external mouse is attached (In Windows 10):

Start menu; type "touch"

Select 'Mouse and Touchpad Settings"

Select "Additional Mouse Options" at the bottom

Check the box "Disable internal pointing device when external USB....."

Select 'Apply"

The warning should appear right away letting you know that you're internal device is disabled.

Hope that helps!

I have tried everythig recomended and I was told by the HP helpdesk that the reason I cannot disable the touchpad is that I have Windows 7 Pro intalled. COuld this be the case?

I tried disabling my mousepad on my HP Spectre laptop by going to the device manager and clicking on Mice and other pointing devices.  I double clicked on the Synaptics SMBus TouchPad and then clicked on the Driver heading but the "Disable Device" icon is shaded back and nothing happens when I click on it!

Help!  How do I disable the touchpad mouse.  I inadvertentl brush against the touchpad while typing and I've already lost entire paragraphs while trying to write reports or write emails.  This is very frustrating.

Also, I watched the video about finding model numbers and serial numbers but there is no label on my Spectre on the bottom or sides or top!  And I don't see a battery cover to open, either.

Here is the solution I found to turn off the touchpad on a Spectre 360:

Control Panel

  Mouse

     Properties

         Clickpad settings

             Clickpad disable

                  OK

If you want to re-enable the pad, go though the same procedure, this time hitting Clickpad Enable

If you want to keep the touchpad enabled except you are using an external pointing device, like a mouse:

      Same procedure but:

          Do not click ClickPad Disable

Instead click the box below that says, "Disable internal pointing device when external USB pointing device is attached"

I hope this is the solution for Spectre 360 users.

To disable the touchpad while USB mouse is connected: Different computers must be set up different ways.  Other suggestions did not work on my 2019 HP Spectre x360 15t but this did work Type “Synaptics” in the Windows search box to open the Synaptics Pointing Device dialog box. Then check the box to “Disable internal pointing device when external USB pointing device is attached.”  NOTE: it did not work for me to type “touchpad” in Windows search box because that opened the generic Touchpad Settings dialog box which did not offer this option.
