Hi @12rs12,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I'm here to help guide you through some general troubleshooting steps for resolving issues with USB devices like a pen drive. However, please note that these steps might not cover all possible issues. Here are some steps you can try:

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. Try a Different USB Port:
    • Connect the pen drive to a different USB port on your laptop. It is possible that the initial port might not be functioning properly.

  2. Clean the USB Ports:
    • Ensure that the USB ports are free from dust and debris, which could affect the connection.

  3. Check for Driver Updates:
    • Go to Device Manager on your laptop.
    • Expand the Universal Serial Bus Controllers section.
    • Right-click on the USB controller and select Update Driver.

  4. Check Disk Management:
    • Type disk management in the search bar to open Disk Management.
    • Check if the pen drive appears here. If it does, it might need to be formatted or have its drive letter assigned.

  5. Test on Another Device:
    • Connect the pen drive to another computer or device to check if it is detected. This can help determine if the issue is with the pen drive or your laptop.

  6. Scan for Hardware Changes:
    • In Device Manager, click on Action and select Scan for hardware changes to detect any newly connected hardware.

  7. Disable USB Selective Suspend Setting:
    • Go to the Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options > Change plan settings > Change advanced power settings.
    • Find USB settings and set the USB selective suspend setting to Disabled.

If the above steps do not resolve the issue, your pen drive may have a hardware problem, or there may be an issue with your laptop that could require professional repair services.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
