I’m using a Poly Voyager Focus 2 paired with both my Mac mini and my iPhone using Bluetooth multipoint. The headset is supposed to switch audio between the two devices, but it’s unreliable.

Here’s the behaviour:

  • Audio from my phone (Spotify ) often won’t play when the headset is also connected to my Mac.

  • If I disable Bluetooth on the Mac, the phone audio works immediately.

  • The Mac seems to hold onto the audio connection even when not actively playing anything.

  • Sometimes it switches correctly, sometimes not, which makes multipoint inconsistent.

I did not receive a BT700 dongle in the box — only the headset, charge stand, and cables. I’m trying to confirm whether this behaviour is expected without the dongle, and whether using the BT700 USB-C adapter would fix the switching issues on macOS.

Thanks for any guidance.

Hello @wonnacota001, Welcome to the HP Poly Support Community.

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding the Poly Voyager Focus 2.

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution. We hope our assistance has been helpful!

To help us get started on resolving your issue, could you please try a few troubleshooting steps provided below so that I can assist you further?

The Poly Voyager Focus 2 headset supports Bluetooth multi point connectivity, which allows it to connect to two devices simultaneously, such as a Mac and an iPhone. However, if audio switching between devices is unreliable, consider the following steps to troubleshoot and improve performance:

Confirm Active Connection: Ensure that both devices are properly paired and connected. You may check the connection status on your devices or through the headset's voice prompts.

Prioritize Active Audio: Try pausing the audio from one device entirely before starting playback on the other. This process can signal the headset more effectively to switch the audio stream.

Update Software and Firmware:

  • Make sure that your headset's firmware is up to date. Use the Poly Lens Desktop App or the Plantronics Hub App to check for and install updates. You can download the app from poly.com/lens.
  • Also, ensure that the software and operating systems on your Mac and iPhone are updated to the latest versions.

Manage Default Audio Devices:

  • On your Mac: Go to System Preferences > Sound > Output and ensure the headset is selected when you need to use it with your Mac.
  • On your iPhone: Ensure Bluetooth is active, and check that the Voyager Focus 2 is selected for audio during playback.

Tweak Bluetooth Settings:

  • On your Mac: Navigate to Bluetooth settings, disconnect/reconnect the headset manually to reset the connection when it becomes unreliable.
  • Consider creating a shortcut to quickly toggle Bluetooth off/on to force the Mac to relinquish control over the audio channel when switching desired.

Set Poly Device as Default on the Mac:

  • Sometimes, explicitly setting your Poly headset as the default device when connecting other audio applications on the Mac can help prioritize switching when connected to another device.

Environmental Factors: Ensure that there are minimal obstructions between the headset and the devices for better Bluetooth performance and avoid areas with high radio frequency interference.

Take care and have an amazing day!
