I see many people have had this problem and I came to this page to find a solution. My Bluetooth settings would say my airpods were connected, however the sound would still come from my computer speakers and not the airpods. To fix this issue connect your airpods to your hp laptop. On the right of the Bluetooth settings screen, go to related settings, then go down to sound settings. At the top of the sound settings screen, look for “output” then change your output device to the airpods :))
