HP Prodesk/Elitedesk 400/600/800 G4 DM
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

I noticed that both the Prodesk 400 G4 DM (which I own) and it's sucessor G5 DM models share the B360 chipset. And that this chipset effectively supports both 8th and 9th gen CPU's.

Also, the G5 is stated to support 8th gen CPU's, but G4 specsheet wasn't updated to suggest it being able to receive 9th gen ones, which would require a BIOS update, naturally.

^ Case in point, the G5 spec sheet clearly has support for 8th gen cpu's with the same chipset, so why not the other way around?

So I inquired if both units shared the same firmware (to be safe that I could order a 9th gen T part and drop it in) and turns out Prodesk 400 G4 DM uses a Q23 BIOS moniker, while the G5 DM uses a R23 one instead, so not the same BIOS. Also checked 800 G4&G5 DM and the modifier is the same Q21 to R21 and predictably, the 600 G4 and G5 variants are Q22 and R22. Both the 600 and 800 DM G4/G5 share the same chipset.

For every each of them, I've verified BIOS updates have been common, but looking at the revision history only the G5 models had entries that spell and I quote: "Add more CPU support"

^Case in point, G5 August 2019 update, there are no G4 updates with the same added cpu support suggestion

I'd like to inquire if support for 9th gen processors is in, just not publicized, if I install a 9th gen CPU will it post on a Prodesk 400 Dm G4 and work properly and if not, are there plans to rectify this? If not, why not?

Thank you in advance
