(where has the professional technical forums gone?)
I am setting up an HP-UX 11.31 Server (rx2800i4) on a network, gigE and connected to a cisco switch (I don't have access to the switch or firewall, so am taking the word of my network engineer as to the terms described here).
Whenever ICMP is blocked to the default gateway, DNS and SSH access stop working on the HP-UX Server. The Firewall is Checkpoint R77.30 and the configuration is as follows,...
src: any, dst:Firewall, service:any, drop
The network engineer added the following rule into the firewall to get it working again.
src: 171.12.97.23, dst:Firewall, service: ping, allow
I have been working with HP-UX for 20 years and I have never seen this before. I know earlier versions of HP-UX had problems with Network Auto-negotiation but don't think this is an issue. Can anyone advise if they have seen this before and if there is a switch to disable it?
