Product: Hp pavilion hpe-130f pc
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)
Here's the scoop.....
PC started to randomly deadlock while running. A deadlock is when the screen of a PC just freeze and nothing responds...keyboard mouse, etc... You have to shut off power at this point and hard reboot. This rarely happened but started to become more frequent. I suspected the power supply (apevia venus 450w) was dying after having it just a little over a year because I could hear a grinding like noise. I thought it was the graphics card since the shop that put in my psu said it had a four year warranty. (shop went out of business)
My PC finally had its last deadlock. After that, the fans would come on and spin, motherboard light was green, but now boot. I could even hear the psu sounding funky so I ordered a 520w Apevia for my 350w system.
The new psu did not power on when I first hit the switch. After multiple attempts, the PC finally booted up and I got back into Windows (win7). I though my problems were over but I took a nap for about several hours and when I got up to use the rest room, Boom....another deadlock...right in my face!
I killed power and rebooted into windows. Hard drive tests, memory and CPU tests all passed. I monitored the gpu temperature and saw that it was jumping up to 70 degrees just while surfing the net or when the screen saver came on and if it were not for me stop those processes, no telling how hot it would have gotten. So now I was thinking, maybe the graphics card card is overheating and causing the deadlocks, so I bought a new graphics card and new ram. I put the PC in sleep mode until my new parts arrived.
I had issues awaking the PC from sleep mode and had to kill the power again. I put in the new graphics card and new ram and tried to power up. The PC kept starting the boot process but then deadlock before the boot completed so I could not even get back into windows. When I tried to run a diag at boot, could not do it because the deadlock happened again right after the CPU test passed ok.
At this point, I'm getting random stuff... The PC not booting but the fans spin or the PC power light would come on with the fans but the monitor would remain black with no boot.
I figured maybe the psu isn't pulling its weight so I got a replace psu of the same one. Both power supplies had the same voltage numbers when I put them on the psu tester. When I put in the second Apevia captain520w psu, things were even worst now!
The fans are revving up and down, no power light.... Then the fans would stop revving and the power light comes on (late!) but no boot. There are no beeps sounds. Every time I tried to power up, same thing... Fans revving up and down; sometimes the fans would rev up and down then stop all together.
It's hard for me to believe it's the power supply again. Should I go ahead and get another motherboard? I know Apevia power supplies get a bad "rep" but what are the odds both power supplies are "chitty?" Motherboard light remains green but that only means there's standby power.
I just don't want to waste money on a new motherboard if the issue is the power supply but at this point... Im leaning towards motherboard or cpu. I really don't think it's the hard drive because remember, the PC use to boot and I was able to get to the windows loading logo at times but the deadlocks would not let it finish.
Now it's all fans revving up and down with the power light not on but sometimes comes on seconds later, no beep sounds and no boot. If you want to know what the exact machine is, run a search on hpe-130f pc. You'll find a hp.com link to the model.
So what do you think.... Motherboard?
