After _a_lot_ of frustration  and wondering why, after 12 months I discovered that my problem was solved by using Macrium to clone my hard disk to SSD. Acronis True Image did not work for me but Macrium did.

 

My thanks to W A Wood for his suggestion on  ‎05-23-2018 06:42 PM which worked and the link he posted http://knowledgebase.macrium.com/display/KNOW/Cloning+a+disk.
