So this is supposed to be more of a, if technically possible, firmware upgrade suggestion for HP.
The new iPhone 12 models from 2020 do not charge reliably on the integrated charging pad in the base of the HP ENVY 32 AIO PCs. The reason, as far as I can tell, is the new MagSafe metal ring around the coil for locking the phone into place. Checking the official HP user guide for the charging pad, one comes to this revealing passage:
"Blinking amber: Metal object detected around charging area. Not charging."
Thus my suggestion: Would it be possible to integrate an option into the OSD menu regarding the charging pad to disable the metal detection in order to successfully charge the new iPhones?
As it now stands charging one of the highest selling smartphones is no longer possible unless, with a lot of luck, one place the iPhone juuuust so. It usually takes many attempts, always waiting anxiously whether the light will blink amber again or not, because one, I assume, must place the MagSafe ring exactly over the coil in the base to maximize the distance between them and thus not trigger the warning.
So in case you can replicate the problem and thus confirm this issue, maybe there's something you could do via a firmware update to remedy the problem? I was planning on keeping the (otherwise btw pretty awesome) ENVY 32 for a few more years and would really appreciate it if I could keep charging my iPhone on its cleverly integrated charging base.
Thanks so much in advance for your help.
