HP Recommended
OMEN Laptop 15-en0006na
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello, I come in need of help. I thought had troubleshooting skills but apparently I am wrong.

I got the HP OMEN just before Christmas and have been merrily playing Fortnite for a few weeks. However, it now blue screens every time I open Fortnite (I open it from the Epic Games app).

In System Properties > Advanced > Startup and Recovery > Settings, I have:

* Automatically restart UNTICKED

* Write debugging information = Automatic memory dump

Despite the above two settings, the automatic restarts are still happening, and no memory dump is being created.

Looking for errors / critical issues in the event viewer, I can see an error "Dump file creation failed due to error during dump creation." Given this, I don't have any dump files that I can share with you.

The message on the blue screen says "System thread exception not handled"

What I've tried:

* Updating all the drivers that the HP Support Assistant can find

* Updating the graphics card driver (it's now GeForce Game Ready Driver version 461.40 from 26/01/2021)

* Reinstalling Fortnite

* Reinstalling Epic Games launcher

* Talking to my computer in an encouraging voice

* Running the HP Performance Tune-up Check

* Running the tests in HP PC Hardware Diagnostics Windows 1.6.7.0 - a ROM test failed and an IRQ test failed, everything else passed

The problem seems to be just with Fortnite - other apps work fine, other games (Rocket League / City Skylines / My time at Portia) work fine, I only ever see the blue screen when opening Fortnite.

I would really welcome any advice / suggestions you have on resolving this issue. I did try researching for Fortnite-specific blue screens of death and could only find a two-year old issue involving anti-cheat software. I did try that fix (just in case) but it didn't fix my issues.

Thank you so much.
