HP 850 G5, LG 27UL650-W
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

I'm trying to connect my HP 850 G5 to LG 27UL650-W which is a 4k@60Hz display. Because my HDMI port is only 30hz, I bought a USB-C to HDMI cable which supports Thunderbolt and 4k@60Hz (that one).

However, plugging the cable into the notebook results in no signal on the LG screen and a flickering built-in display. It looks like the laptop is "trying" to connect with the screen, but with no success.

Unexpectedly, the LG display works if I first connect it via both standard HDMI and USB-C cables and then unplug the HDMI cable! When this operation is done, I have my 4K@60Hz working alright, but this stops whenever the computer is turned off or goes to sleep, and I have to repeat plugging and unplugging cables which is a nuisance.

I tried it with a different cable (USB-C to DP 1.4), but with the same result. In BIOS I tried to set my Thunderbolt port as USB and Display port only, but the problem remains. All drivers are up-to-date as the HP Support Assistant indicates.

Is there anything I can do to fix it and have a stable 4K@60Hz?  Thanks in advance!
