Hi all,

 

I was updating my machine to Windows 10 2004. Along the way I have installed all updates available in Windows Update. I have also updated device drivers including HP Firmware (unfortunately as you will see). It was unexpected that HP Firmware update would update BIOS to. But it did. No question, no BIOS password request - I has just updated. It all worked just fine and my laptop finally started Windows 10.

Although all was working well, a new BIOS has blocked undervolting feature and machine become way to hot and noisy. I was aware of undervolting issues with new BIOS versions and I did not plan to update it. However - it has just happen.

I thought I would revert to the old BIOS version. And I did. It installed succesfully. At this point I thought it was over. But unfortunately it wasn't. Every time Windows boots with older BIOS version it works great until shutdown/restart. After shutdown/restart, however, laptop automatically starts BIOS update procedure (to the version which was obtained from Windows Update). Again - no questions, anything. I just flashes firmware which was obtained from Windows Update. I have repeated "downgrade" procedure again (flash older BIOS version) with the same otucome. After Windows restart the firmware oryginally obtained from Windows Update gets flashed automatically. And again. And again.

Of course if I do not downgrade BIOS nothing happens when Windows is restarted. It seems that mysterious flashing process happens only when an older BIOS version is present.

 

Can anyone explain what is going on here?  How to stop Windows/machine form doing it and force it to stay with BIOS version I have flashed manualy?
