Product: ENVY x360 Laptop - 15z-ds100
Operating System: Linux

In this age of 'Spector/Meltdown/Spoiler' level computer security breaches, I'll be installing Linux of some flavor (Probably Debian/Ubuntu) on this laptop, (and possibly as a dual boot with Windows 10). 

 

I want a wi-fi card with security in mind, not just in terms of it's ability to support robust protocols, but one that is open source so I can be sure that the card vendor isn't a backdoor itself rifling thru our medical records for example. So I'm looking to choose the best open source driver wi-fi card. 

 

Which one of these cards would be the best for using with a Linux open source driver?  😃

 

  • Realtek Wi-Fi 5 (2x2) and Bluetooth® 5 Combo (MU-MIMO supported)
  • Intel® Wi-Fi 6 AX 201 (2x2) and Bluetooth® 5 Combo (Gigabit file transfer speeds)

This page might be helpful in answering this question, that is if you happen to know exact model of cards that HP is using.

 

(BTW, I already understand what 1x1 and 2x2 is, as well as version 5 vs 6, and those are of less importance to me.)
