HP Pavilion 15-au063cl
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I need to use the headphone jack on this laptop (with 3.5mm to 1/4" adapter  connected to 1/4" male to male audio cable) to connect to one of the microphone inputs on the back of the 24 channel  audio mixer at my church for worship services. .   When I make the connection it is not being recognized, the sound is still coming out of the built-in speakers.       However, when I plug in a set of headphones, that IS recognized (I see the message on the screen)  and the sound comes into the headphones without any problems.

The laptop is using a wireless (WIFI) connection.

Any assistance would be appriecated.
