Hi, I need to share my expirience with dv6700 upgrade. Hope it will be usefull someone. If not... well i gona tell it anyway.
I got dv6700 with broken motherboard, 3 GB Memory, Core 3 Duo t5550, matrix with 1280x800 resolution, hdd 160 GB and poorly working electricitiy adapter.
First what i saw was green artifacts on screen. The guy, who gave it to me, teel me that the matrix is broken and if i will change it problem will be solved. HE was wrong. I start looking for used matrixes, and figured out, i can try to replace my matrix with another but better resolution (1680x1050). It has same formfactor and 30pin port as old one.
I didn't had a highpayed job, but i bought new matrix from a guy, who told me, that it works properly and in wery good condition.
When i came home i was so exited, i started to replacing it even did change my cloth. And i got the sane green artifacts...
I feel myselef decieved. I even tryed to call the guy i bougth the matrix from and return him the matrix, but he told me "Hey, we have a deal, no return." I was frustrated, but i got a little consult from him - "you have a broken GPU."
Now i knew, that video card couldn't be replased, only the motherboard whole...
I took the pause, since i got no money, but i started to look on trade markets the new motherboard. The criterion for buying was: intel socket, max 8 GB memory.
In a few month i ordered it from china and start looking for a best processor and two memory cards DDR2 800 MHz 4 GB.
Earlier i readed that the best processor for this motherboard is t9500. It have 2 cores, 2,6 GHz each, 800 MHZ bus. And i started to looking it on trade markets online. I founede many offers restored processors (it was in use before) in china.
Also i tried to look in my city (Moscow), and i found it, and it was the new one. I called the guy, and he told me that he out of t9500 processors, but he have Core 2 Extreme x9000. He told it have same socket, same bus frequency 800 MHz, but have better speed 2,8 MHz.
I did'n read anywhere, i could use Extreme processor for dv6700, so i doubted. I even asked the guy what about heat power of this processor, and he told me it have 45 Wt, insted 35 Wt t9500. I even asked in the forum, could i use this processor, or not... and i got negative answer. "There is a BIOS upgrade that allows up to a T9900, I believe which is a very good processor but the X series are not supported." - told me support membed, Of cource i asked him how could it be the t9900 processor, if it have bus speed 1066 MHz? And support member told me "You are right. F.45 and higher BIOS allows up to a T9500 and no higher. Still a pretty good processor."
But i still bought x9000, i wanted to experiment.
I the same time i founded in Moscow 2 plancs of DDR2 800MHz 4GB memory, and boughted it too.
I was eating realy cheap food that time, but i still was happy... all i needed is motherboard, and it was in the way from china.
The motherbard arrived in a few weeeks. I started to install all parts in my pavilion (motherboard, CPU, memory, and even matrix with 1680x1050)
And... tah-dah... it woked!
The motheboard had the latestt BIOS, and it worked properly with x9000. And it have no overheaitng. 8 GB memory intalled with no problem too.
But i had new problem. Notebook started rebooting with no reason from time to time. And the spot where the HDD was wery hot. I tryed to to check HDD with Vistoria and from BIOS, and it was nearly broken.
I desided to replace the HDD, but with what devise? HDD or SSD? I didn't know what to shoose, and i discovered for myseld the hybrid (HDD+SSD). It has 1TB HDD, and 8GB SSD memory, where the system could be installed. But i couldn't choose what i place in the SSD part, the microcontroller on the device choose the date witch using the most, and placing it into the SSD chip. And the device itself sees as the simple 1TB HDD in system.
"It's the perfest desision! Fast boot from SSD, and 1TB for my data in one divice" - thought i.
And i bought it. After i installed Windows 7 on it, it booted few times. Then suddenly it stop loading. I saw black screen after the BIOS screen. I even tryed to reinstall the system, but it's didn't worked.
I came to the shop, i tell, that i want to refund. Manager tested HDD, and told me it works fine, and he can' take it back, because i broke the packaging. After short dispute, he gave me refund but eith paycards, i could use in his shop. I was satisfied, and on this cards, i bought a simple 1TB HDD with 7200 RPM. And it works perfect still.
Then i raplaced BIOS battery. And 2 tapes with contacts on motherboard (it was answering for starting notebook, and i think the second one answering for sensors under sreen), because of my obsessed idea modernize pavilion i disassebled it so many times that contacts were rubbed.
And the final part i replaced was the AC adapter, witch i bought on computer matker.
