Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7 (32-bit)

My DVI port does not have a signal.

 

I recently purchased a second monitor, and tried to hook it up via my DVI port while my primary remains on VGA. I've never used my DVI port before so i don't know if it ever worked.  I purchased an adapter from Amazon to go from the DVI port to a DP port in the monitor.  (Aslo, desktop does not have an hdmi port).

 

I have an HP Pavilin P7-1205

Graphics Card

- Inter (R) HD Graphics Family 2000, BIOS: Intel Video Bios

 

Since i'm using my computer to work from home, I'm afraid of rebooting the OS and being unable to work for long periods. But please let me know if the computer is just too old to resolve the issue.
