Hi to all,

I've got an old HP 550 notebook took from a friend. The plan is to use it for browsing with a light Linux distro or something similar.

The problem is the display. It is very dim, barely invisible after few seconds of correct brightness.

I can see that is still on and I can use the notebook

If I close and reopen the screen it come with a correct brightness but, again, for few seconds.

This occurs inside and outside operating systems.

I've tried to reset Bios to factory settings without success (even in bios setup the screen go dim)

Even after a succesfully bios upgrade the problem is still present

Ok, is highly possible a hardware failure but I don't understand why closing/opening the screen give me a correct brightness.

Normally, in my mind, a thing is functioning, broken or malfunctioning 😄

Someone faced a similar issue and can help me to find a solution?

Thanks
