My Elitebook will not turn on. It had been unused for a year or two (not plugged in to AC), until a few weeks ago. I had installed Linux and was using it plugged into AC. There were no observed problems. I then used it once while not plugged into AC - it was running off the battery. At one point after it went into Standby the power button wouldn't turn it back on. I ended up pressing the power button a bunch of times before the keyboard lit up and it turned on. It entered a recovery mode, but I was able to restart Linux.
Overnight the battery died and I have been unable to turn on again. Pressing the power button doesn't do anything. If I keep the power button pressed for 30s, the power light and Caps Lock will light up for a few seconds and then turn off. No audible sounds and nothing appears on the display. I've also tried this with pressing the escape key, pressing "b" and the "Windows" key. Nothing makes a difference. Pressing the power key for a shorter time doesn't do anything. I removed the battery and tried all of these actions and there is no difference. When I plug the power adapter in after I removed it, I also observe he power light and Caps Lock light up for a few seconds and then turn off. There is no blinking.
My first thought was to replace the battery, but since the laptop acts the same with and w/o the battery it would appear to be something else? Everything I've read online has to do with blinking lights. My lights do not blink.
