Hello,

I have an issue with my almost new HP Pavilion 15 Laptop. The problem is with fan controlling. The fans would not slow down back to their idling speed after they had been speeded up.

I used a SpeedFan to see the speed of my fans. Before running the game, the fans were idling and were making very little noise.(SpeedFan reports 0 rpm) During the game, the speed of fans increased as expected. After I exited the game, the load on CPU and GPU was zero and I would expect the fans to decrease their speed and quiet down, but they kept running on a higher speed than previous, while the software reports them as idling.(SpeedFan reports 0rpm again) So the idling speed of the fans increased for some reason and does not decrease. Even restarting the laptop does not help and fans continue to run at a higher speed, producing noise. They keep running even after the laptop was turned off for 8-10 hours. I have found that going to the BIOS settings and changing the "Fan always on" option, returns the fans idling speed back to normal. I find it to be very uncomfortable to restart the laptop and go to the BIOS settings after every time that I run resource-demanding software.

UPD: After doing factory reset, the fans started to fully turn off. However, it did not solve the issue.

UPD 2: During the BIOS update, the fans run at maximum speed and then slow down. Perhaps Windows 10 is responsoble for the incorrect fan control.

UPD 3: It appears that it is a left fan that does not slow down

UPD 4: I have sent my laptop to HP service twice and the problem was never resolved. It seems that their test does not detect tat issue.

!!UPD 5: the issue is with Graphics Card's fan - the left fan

I have already tried to solve the issue both myself and with the HP support. We have tried lots of things:

  • Switching on/off HP CoolSense
  • Changing battery power settings
  • Updating the BIOS
  • Doing factory reset
  • Updating Nvidia drivers
  • Updating all other drivers

I looking for a confirmation of whether this is a known issue and whether it could be solved.  I don't want to send my laptop to HP if they don't know how to fix it.

Additional info:

  • The Hardware Diagnostics in the BIOS did not find any issues.
  • The fans continue to run fast even after the laptop has fully cooled down to 30 degrees C.
  • At some moments it appears that the fan is finally slowing down, but then it speeds up again.
  • If the fans do not speed up to their maximum speed, then they operate correctly. It is as through when the fans reach a certain speed then a switch is tripped and they cannot return back. Only changes in BIOS can affect them.

Thank you in advance!

Regards!
