HP Elitebook 840

Hello, I'm hopeful that someone will be able to help me.  I own an HP Elitebook 840, refurbished. Recently the fan has been running non-stop, without being able to turn on the laptop. If left to charge for hours, the fan eventually stops running, and the computer is able to turn on, but the laptop shows battery 1 and 2 aren't present.  I've made 2 attempts at replacing the battery. also tried this solution offered by HP user Attackofzaq:

Uninstalling the ACPI driver by:

1.open device manager

2.expand battery section

3.uninstall all components

4.shut down the laptop

5. remove batery and AC power

6. press and hold power button for 1 full minute

7.replace battery only

8.boot the laptop and allow windows to reinstall the drivers

Unfortunately when I replaced the battery, only, and reboot the laptop, it went right into continuous fan running mode, and the laptop won't turn on.  If someone has a solution to offer, I'd greatly appreciate it.  Thank you
