HP EliteBook 850 G5
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Problem:

The EliteBook has a fingerprint sensor but seemingly it is not detected in Windows. In the Device Manager the Biometric Devices are missing. In result it's not possible to sign in with the fingerprint scanner as it says under Settings > Accounts > Sing-in options.

Unsuccesful approach to the problem:

I went to the Software and Drivers section on the support website and entered my device (5CG9086PM3).

https://support.hp.com/gb-en/drivers/laptops -> https://support.hp.com/gb-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-elitebook-850-g5-notebook-pc/18491276/model/1849...

Under Diver-Keyboard, Mouse and Input Devices, there is the Synaptics VFS7552 WBF Touch Fingerprint Driver. I downloaded and installed it and restarted my laptop.

No result: There is still no biometric device in the Decive Manager.

On the web, I found only two different kinds of information from multiple sources regarding this problem, both are outdated or not even relevant for Windows 10.

How can the problem be sovled? I went through the steps that HP suggests specifically for my device, installed the dedicated driver software from HP and still my laptop from HP is not working in the way it is supposed to.

Greetings and thanks for your help!
