HP Recommended
HP Envy x360
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

This question has appeared a few times on this site already (it seems like a common issue), so I wanted to open it again.

I've had this laptop for around 2-3 years, and sadly my warranty expired after only 1 year. A few months ago whilst closing my laptop I heard a loud crack and a two screws popped out of my laptop, which appeared to be holding the screen onto the hinges. After carefully opening my laptop again (and keeping it permanently open to avoid further damage), I continued to use it as normal, since I'm at university and it contains all of my work.

I contacted HP customer support to see how much it was to repair these hinges and they said it would cost £314!

After some protest they were willing to offer the same service for £220, but this still seems ridiculous for a laptop that cost me around £600, and was damaged not by carelessness but by simply CLOSING the laptop. Since then, the screen has begin to suffer from glitches and colour issues, which has made the laptop increasingly difficult to use, but I can't really afford to throw £220 at a laptop I already bought outright, just for this problem to emerge again in a couple years time.

From what I understand, this is an INCREDIBLY common issue with this type of laptop.

The user @Huershut in this thread: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/HP-Envy-x360-Broken-Hinge/td-p...

mentioned in 2018 that he managed to get his x360 repaired for free, and I wondered what the conditions of this free repair were, and whether or not such a thing would be available to me and others who experience this issue.

Thank you for reading this little rant,

sincerely,

A worried student
