HP L2475w (Intel(R) Display Audio)
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have an HP EliteBook 840 GS (with an Intel(R) UHD 620 Graphics processor in use; no NVIDIA on board) that recognizes the audio capabilities of my external HP L2475w monitor when connected with an HDMI cable. Windows reports the device (HP L2475w (Intel(R) Display Audio)) to be operating as normal. The monitor documentation says that it relies on external loudspeakers connected via an SPDIF cable to actually produce sound from the HDMI signal. I have attached an HP LCD Speaker Bar (HP P/N 531565-001) to the monitor as prescribed; they match perfectly. However, this speaker bar has no SPDIF input port; its input comes from a fixed cable with a USB contact and a stereo jack in parallel, and it has no other connections with the actual monitor. I think I have read somewhere that the monitor might also handle audio signals over other channels. Connecting the USB contact of the sound bar to the EliteBook does not produce any sound. (Connecting the headphone jack instead activates the EliteBook's built-in headphones jack as a device, and it does indeed produce sound in the Speaker Bar; its loudspeakers are in good condition.) How can I get audio signals from the HP EliteBook to the HP Speaker Bar through a device selection other than the Headphones jack?
