HP Mobile Data Protection Sensor (2021)

Hello, 

            I have a Probook 4440s with the seemingly unsupported HP Mobile Data Protection Sensor. I have read several post running me around from this version to that version of the file which never quite installs properly or gives errors after reboot. This is how I fixed the problem myself...

1)Locate the Newest drivers...From google search "hp mobile data protection sensor windows 10 lateset drivers" this should give you the microsoft update catalog that is relevent to the driver you need...(note: the drivers are not sorted into categories well there is no apparent x86/x64 that can be distinguished so you may have to pick one download it and look in the cab file to make sure you have the right one:also these do not come with install or setup but dont worry we will get to that

1a) After finding the proper driver package for your type of device ie x64 or x86 extract the resulting cab into a new folder.

2) At this point we need to make sure that the software is uninstalled. Hit win-R or click the search button on the task bar and type "control panel"... then click programs and find the "hp mobile data protection sensor" and click uninstall. Upon finish it will ask you to reboot now. "Personally I click no" Then close all apps and anything that is not running in the background before I choose to restart. After Restart You should be ready to prepare a custom install from the files you had just downloaded.

3)Moving Files (this will be best achieved with 2 separate File Explorer Windows open) Open First the folder containing the files you just downloaded and extracted from the .cab file. Now open a new window and navigate to C:\SWSetup and locate your version of the mobile data protection sensor. In my case it was SP62981. At this time I set up a split screen between them to begin transferring files to the location they will be called from.

3a) I started by opening the AMD64 folder in the SP62981 folder and started from the top one at a time copy and pasting to that folder the the files from the extracted cab that match exactly the files in the AMD64 folder until all have been replaced that can be. (I just draged and dropped them so that when they moved they were no longer in the folder i was copying them from)(note: there is a file that may not be named the same "HPMDPCoInst.dll" needed to be changed to "HPMDPCoInst14.dll" before moving it into the folder so make sure when you copy a file over it has the exact same filename and asks you to replace. If it does not ask you to replace it either does not go in the folder or it is not spelled right.)

3b) When finished with the AMD folder I went back to the "C:\SWSetup\SP62981\drivers" folder and copied the main files that match the exact name into the folder.  This will be fairly easy as there are only 3 files to replace.(note you will likely have to give permission and always choose to replace.) When done you will be left with some files that look like they were duplicate files. These we will have to rename.

3c) Now open up the x86 folder and rename all the like files to match so you can replace the original ones in the folder. Remember the CoInst.dll file needs to be renamed with CoInst14.dll as in the X64 folder. When all of these files have been finally moved you should be left with an empty folder.

4) Go back up one level in your SWSetup Folder as in my case was SP62981. From this folder there will be an executable file called setup. Go ahead and open it and go through the install. After install it will ask you to reboot, I choose no and make sure all programs are closed browser file explorer and any other app that could cause an interruption to the restart process. After the reboot is finished. Your HP Mobile Data Protection Sensor should be functioning properly and display no errors in the Device Manager.

Hope this finds anyone else looking for a solution to the MDPS that upon windows updates gets broken.
