HP ProBook 4530s
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Description of currrent unit:

Unit is an HP 2012 ProBook 4530s,  Intel Core i3, running Win 7 Pro x64 bit.

OEM hard drive failed 3x while under warranty, reinstalled Win 7 each time from original discs, the last time onto an upgraded Hitachi 500GB HD 2+ yrs ago: no HDD or any other software/hardware problems since then, ever.

AntiVirus: Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE), Malwarebytes Prem, Spybot: updated and run daily.

All Windows Updates were continuously installed EXCEPT:

"Win 7 Service Pack 1 for x64-based Systems (KB976932)": many installation attempts all FAILED.

This Microsoft 'Service Pack 1' is an absolutely necessary 'package of updates', without which other key upgrades - such as versions of Explorer more recent than V. 9, and many more recent versions of other browers as well.

Weeks of research - using every resource available - revealed that an HP DEFECTIVE DRIVER for the Intel® HD graphics 3000 graphics card installed in this unit was at fault- neither HP nor Intel could provide a new driver to correct the issue.

Many HP laptops/desktops using this same graphics card: 'HD Graphics Family V. 8.15.10.2559' reported the same issue on both HP and other computer help boards - HP never acknowledged or offered any 'fix' to this problem.

I have no idea whether the problem cited in the subject line above might be related to this software defect.

The first solution that came to mind was to find the original HP driver on the HP 4530s 'Drivers & Software' page, but I could find no HP driver for this factory-installed optical drive.

The drive has rarely been used during the life of this laptop.  This disk-tray 'auto-opening' problem - inability to lock the tray into the laptop body - only started within the last 24 hours.

I had used the drive a number of times for routine back-up - until the data exceeded the capacity of these R/W CDs.

Now it doens't appear to work at all.

Daily multiple AV runs have never detected any virus - would welcome any advice as to how to proceed.

Despite the disappointments related above, this ProBook - especially its full kepboard & display, easy- ergonomics and great durable aluminum-clad case, has made it my favorite.

I have more than enough CPU power and HD storage space for my purposes - it is a real workhorse.

Need some help tweeking it, to get rid of these bugs.    Thanks.
