The motherboard of my beloved rose gold HP Spectre x360 died on me after 4 years of use. Like many people these days, I work from home and use my laptop for pretty much everything - work, personal use, etc. Then one week ago, my lap top turned off by itself at nearly full battery while I was speaking to my boss over Zoom. I tried to turn it back on and the light indicating the power button would shine for a brief moment and then rapidly dim away. I thought this might have been an issue with the battery, so I borrowed my girlfriend's Mac computer and charged my HP Spectre overnight. The next day, I woke up and tried to power it on, but still nothing. Fearing the worst, I took my HP Spectre to the nearest computer repair shop and I received a call three days ago from the computer technician saying that the motherboard was burned up and the cost to repair it would be $650.
For a computer that was advertised as being one step below its flagship model (and its price certainly reflected that), I was shocked that such a major component would fail on me after such a brief period of time. Unfortunately after doing some research, it appears that I am not alone on this issue as many complaints have been registered to HP about this problem and only few solutions offered.
I for one remain optimistic that HP will do the right thing and repair my computer since this is clearly a faulty product. I only received a 1yr warranty for my laptop which is ridiculous considering no one pays over $2,000 for a laptop that only works for a short amount of time. I refuse to believe that HP is knowingly selling a faulty product that has effected so many people. With any luck, HP will fix this issue and fix my laptop at no cost.
While I hate using Apple computers, I know they don't break down this fast. So I sincerely hope someone from HP Support can make this right.
