HP Spectre x360 - 13-ac063dx

I've been trying to update the BIOS on my HP Spectre x360 13-ac063dx for a while now with no paths forward. I tried downloading the hp BIOS update file (sp111954.exe on the website) which extracts into the folder and spits out a 0827EF52_WIN.EXE file. This file doesn't do anything. I click on it, I see a process in task manager that says the BIOS flash Utility is in the background and it goes away after 5sec. I already tried using HP Support Assistant which also didn't do anything, I tried running the laptop in Safe Mode to update the BIOS but also did the same thing. Is there actual set of files so I can just update the BIOS using the Firmware Management pre-boot menu?  The laptop is currently on BIOS version F.49.

Hi @Gmirabal

try to use a lower version for example F.50 and then try the latest version

I tried F50 and that didn’t, do anything. I also tried F51 and that didn’t do anything either. Both only extracted to the SWSetup fold on my C drive and that’s it. They only thing it does do, is create a corresponding 0827EFXX.exe file that does nothing when clicked on.

Yes I understand it looks corrupted, have you tried to check for the Windows Update firmware update.

I did a Windows Update at 1130 today and everything checked out. Just tried it again now and Windows says everything is updated (which i assume Windows related updates are good). Never seen any firmware/BIOS updates come from Windows Updates since getting the laptop in 2018. Even version F49 was manually updated.

Normally HP is sending the updates by Windows Update of the BIOS, they arrive before they are published on the support page.

I in particular do not use these updates, I have seen many failures and devices that do not work anymore. In particular I recommend you to wait for a new update, for some reason that update does not work or was deactivated by HP.

Understandable. Unfortunately this update was the last update for this model and the BIOS update was released in 2020. Even if HP deactivated the update, the one posted in the Support page should work. If that doesn’t work HP should have alternative methods to update the BIOS.

I don't know if your device is compatible, but try the following. When power on the device press the F2 key several times, enter the HP Diagnostic, see in the menu have a BIOS update.

This is the latest version

Yeah I tried using the HP Diagnostic but there wasn’t an options for the firmware on the latest version. I can try to take a picture of it at some point later on.
