Product: Elitebook x360 1040 G7
I have a user with a Elitebook x360 1040 G7 and a Apple Thunderbolt display. The output cable on the thunderbolt display is Thunderbolt 2. He has the adapter for Thunderbolt 2 to Thunderbolt 3 provided by Apple. The Elitebook has a Thunderbolt 3 port on it but he also has a HP Thunderbolt G2 docking station. Things that have been tried:
- tried all ports on docking station and laptop
- has tried other cables and 3rd party Adapters
- BIOS settings are set to no security for Thunderbolt as well as tried changing the setting for Thunderbolt only from the option for Pcie and other devices.
- All drivers have been updated on the laptop and the Docking station driver has been installed.
- Myriad of other things as well that I can't really remember.
Things of notice are:
- When display is plugged in it makes the bloop noise like something was plugged in. But nothing happens.
- in Device manager it will show the thunderbolt 2 to 3 adapter listed but there is another driver that has an error saying "Unknown USB Device (Port Reset Failed)"
- I don't know anything about Apple Displays and what they should look like if working but the user says that it doesn't look like the Apple display is on, no light. I guess it could be possible that it is broken.
- He mentioned that it was working before on a previous jobs Lenovo laptop with no issues.
- Installed the Thunderbolt secure connect utility but it only recognizes the docking station
This is driving me mad and there isn't much out there on HP's other than one specific laptop in regards to this issue.
