HP Recommended
Product: HP 17z

The hinge for my laptop starting making strange sounds after 11 months. I couldn't describe the issue to HP support, but now after 16 months the laptop screen doesn't open properly and I can see the case is cracked. 

Initial customer support say I would need a new computer because it will cost more to repair. They say this is normal because I didn't purchase an extended warranty. I only use my laptop at home and it sits on my desk. It's hard for me to believe that HP is such a poor quality - is that what others have experienced? Because I couldn't formally log the issue of 11 months I need to throw the laptop out?
