Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Hi,

When I power my notebook, I see the blue HP logo in the screen center, and the Setup Screen text in the lower

left (Press Esc to enter Setup).

If I do nothing, and allow the the notebook to continue booting, all that happens is that the logo remains in view

and I hear continous beeping, the notebook freezes, displayng the logo.

Alternatively if I press 'Esc', the Setup menu appears:

F1 System information: works fine

F2 System Diagnostics : works fine

But all the following options, when chosen, result in the notebook freezing and continously bleeping:

F9 Boot Device Options

F10 BIOS Setup

F12 Network Boot

ENTER - Continue Startup

My confession, I got so fed up being asked to enter the password twice when booting, once by HP Security Manger then

by Windows, that I tried to initially disable HP Security Manager, but couldn't.

So I un-installed HP Security Manager and HP Support Assistant via windows. There was also another app. but the name

is lost to me.

When I rebooted, my problems started.

So I did the following:

(1) Updated the BIOS from:  L71 v1.32 to v1.39. (Using USB flash drive, Windows logo + B keys, BIOS Recovery)

       - I believe the update was successful because the System Menu - option F1 informs me so.

       - Note: during the BIOS recovery process, I'm asked to enter the BIOS password which was also my Windows

password, i.e my old password is still recognised by the BIOS/Security.

      - Also, during the process I see a 'BIOS error - 500' reported.

       - but still my problem persists.

(2) I tried restoring the BIOS from the HP_TOOLS partition which I believe exists, but not sure.

      - but having powered up, with the Windows Logo and B keys pressed, all that happens is that the CAPS LOCK

led just blinks. No BIOS Recovery takes place.

I did not find HP Security Manager a friendly application, especially when I could not set up credentials for the finger

print sensor.

When I could not see an option to disable the BIOS Password I vented my frustation by deleting all the app's, but

it would appear that the BIOS may still have some connection with the app's.

Would removing the notebook's hard drive and slaving it to another system, then install HP Security Manager again

resolve my issue ?

Any help is much appreciated.

Regards,

Gaz
