HP Recommended
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My touchpad stopped working today.  I tried restarting the computer, which did nothing.  I opened the Device Manager and checked for an update of the drivers, but it said the best drivers for my touchpad were already installed.  In the past when things like this have happened, I've uninstalled the touchpad through the Device Manager and restarted the computer, and the drivers have been automatically reinstalled and it starts working again.  When I tried that, it didn't work.  Thinking that maybe the drivers were gone somehow, I went to the HP website and found Synaptic touchpad drivers compatible with my computer, downloaded one that was supposedly compatible, and tried to install it.  The installer said it wasn't compatible with my computer.

Eventually, I found the drivers still on my computer from the last time I had to reinstall them, but when I tried to install them this time, I got an error message saying "A newer version of the Synaptics Pointing Device Driver is installed.  If you want to install the older version of the driver, please uninstall the current Synaptics driver by selecting "Synaptics Pointing Device" from the "Add/Remove Programs" Control Panel, then run setup again."  I found the Synaptics Pointing Device in the Apps & Features control panel, uninstalled it, and tried to reinstall the drivers again, but got the same error message.  I've looked everywhere and there's no trace of any Synaptics Pointing Device currently installed on my computer, but I keep getting the same error message telling me to uninstall it.

Does anyone know how [edit] I can fix this?
