I am attempting to load Ubuntu 18.04 onto a windows 10 laptop (originally windows 7 or 8, upgraded to 10). The screen is broken on the laptop, so it is connected to a tv via hdmi cable to display.
I have the Ubuntu ISO loaded on a jump drive (it is the only usb connected to the laptop), and I select boot from USB from the UEFI menu. When it restarts, it sounds like it starts to power up - I can hear the fan run and i believe the hard drive spinning, but nothing ever comes up on the screen. The tv does not detect an input and displays the message 'no signal.' I ultimately have to remove the jump drive, and power off/on to get back to windows.
I am wondering if it is loading, but it is not connecting to the external display at the initial stage of the install - can I set it to from BIOS? I didnt see the option to when looking at advanced options from BIOS (maybe a BIOS upgrade?) Any recommendations?
