Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

My audio was fine.  All of the sudden it stopped working.  I checked device manager, no audio card was listed, although there is an error with a "Base System Device" .

 

When I attempted to reinstall the driver software the error was "no sound card present", I unstalled and rebooted and reinstalled, no help.  Ran in compatability mode the error is "Must have Windows Vista" .  The machine shipped with Windows 7 x64.

 

I checked for a BIOS upgrade but I have the latest version already.  

 

I attempted system restore, but it failed, as usual.  

 

Does anyone have any ideas?
