Product: Spectre x360 13t-aw100
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Since I've owned my Spectre x360 13t-aw100 I have not been able to successfully boot up with the eGPU attached via Thunderbolt 3.

 

If I attempt to boot (or restart my computer, even unplanned like it does after updating Windows 10) with the eGPU connected, the laptop will load a black screen on the laptop monitor and 1 of the 2 external monitors 

I have connected to the GPU in the eGPU and then do nothing. If I press ESC or any of the function keys prior to posting I can use those pre-boot functions fine, but if I let the process goes as far as it when it would normally show the HP logo with the spinning dots to indicate Windows 10 is loading it just doesn't.

 

I believe this is caused by DMA protection, but is not an issue on other laptops/NUC computers because they support changing the security settings for Thunderbolt 3 or they support whitelisting/approving the specific device so that the laptop can boot with it connected.

 

I would like to see the Spectre x360 13t's firmware/BIOS expanded to support the common Thunderbolt 3 features like adjusting the security level to no devices at all, only display port, PCIe and display port and approved PCIe and display port with the ability to modify the approved list. I've been waiting to see such changes in the BIOS updates we've gotten over the last 11 months and I am honestly very disappointed that such a capable device is being crippled in this amazing feature set. I've read that the HP Omen works without issue on boot and I can only imagine it's because the Omen is whitelisted on some pre-approved list by HP that end-users cannot modify.
