Spectre x360 15-bl1xx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My Spectre x360 15-bl1xx unexpectedly goes to sleep or shuts down completely. This happens 1-2x per day.

The unit is usually used on a well-ventilated stand with the cover closed, with an external display connected via HDMI, and power connected. However, the problem also occurs when running on battery and with no external display connected.

BIOS: F.42

Power mode: "Balanced"

I have run the UEFI diagnostics (v7.9.0.0) on loop for many hours, but the shutdown hasn't occurred while testing.

I'm not sure if it is a "thermal" shutdown/sleep or due to some other problem. Is there a log that would indicate the exact cause?

There are two other symptoms that may be related:

- fans turn on high at random times and usually don't shut off until reboot. This appears to be independent of CPU load (based on what Task Manager reports)

- I used to occasionally get a blue screen Windows crash with the stop code "DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE". I haven't seen this recently, since upgrading to the current BIOS.

Any suggestions? Do I need to have HP "repair" or exchange the unit? Others reporting similar symptoms have had the same issue with their replacement.
