This docking cube has always been a little noisy with the fan going. It got a little worse lately. I unplugged it overnight and I started taking it apart to see if the fan was hitting something.  I got the top off and could pry the PCB up to look inside and see a casting which looks like the fan but I stopped and put it back together.  When I plugged it back in, it was a lot quieter, but the longer it is powered up, the louder the fan squeal gets.

When I shut down the PC at night, the fan is always running, so I have been unplugging it from the PS when I can remember. This docking station is a couple of years old.  I guess it is more noticeable since I have been working from home since March 2020 and it is quiet in my home office as compared to working Downtown with the AC blower going in the building all day.

Do I just turn some music up to mask the noise?  🙂

Seems like I read a post of someone that disabled the fan.

I did try a different 150w docking station that is small rectangular and fanless , but the popup complained that I was not using the right power supply, so I switched back to this 230w cube.  Do you think HP would replace the cube?
