HP Spectre x360
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello.

This isn't a question, it's an answer... one that worked for me anyway.

My Setup

HP Spectre x360

HP USB-C Dock G5

BenQ GW2283 (connected via HDMI to the Dock)

The Problem

Only getting a Limited RGB Range output to my 2nd display, causing a washed out picture.  The Intel UHD 620 graphics is capable of Full Range, but the ability to set the 'Quantization Range' was removed from Intel's driver over two years ago and they don't seem to be interested in putting it back. -.-

The Fix

Add a DWORD key with a value of 1 named EnableRGBFullRange to the registry key \Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4d36e968-e325–11ce-bfc1–08002be10318}\xxxx, where xxxx is the display index. (ie: 0001)

The Result

intel-uhd-full-range-fix.jpg

The photos (taken with a potato camera, sorry) show my 2nd monitor at the top, and laptop screen at the bottom.  I dragged Google Maps across both screens.  On the left you can't see the building models on the 2nd monitor because they're so washed out, but they look fine once Full Range is enabled.

Please note: the Full Range display switches off when my computer wakes from sleep.  To re-enable I have to unplug the Dock, wait 5-10 seconds or so, and plug it back in.  (One of the fixes I read mentioned fiddling with settings in the Intel Graphics Control Panel to switch it back on, but that didn't work for me.)

I hope this is useful. 🙂
