Single SSID for 2.4GHz (Channel 😎 and 5GHz (Channel 153) ← custom channel setup I have never had a problem with.

Latest firmware on all devices thru Windows Update and Intel Driver Assistant.

Laptop is always <8 feet from my WiFi router. Plugged into a port replicator for 2 years now. No issues whatsoever. Laptop doesn't really leave this setup. in the house.

Sleep mode when connected to power is DISABLED. Only screen saver is active.

WiFi card Power Saving Mode is DISABLED.

Recently, I noticed that I was connected to 2.4GHz WiFi giving me 80-90 Mbps. I have a 600Mbps internet connection and have always connected at 5GHz and about 590Mbps, because I am so close to the router.

  1. I tried to disconnect and reconnect. Still 2.4GHz.
  2. I deleted the connection and created it again. Connects correctly to 5GHz. with high speeds.
  3. Somehow (don't know what conditions) WiFi card disconnects from 5GHz and connects to 2.4GHz. Repeated steps 1, 2. Same results.
  4. Happened 2-3 times.
  5. I tried all sorts of things including completely resetting Winsock and full Network Reset, removing all WiFi connections, etc. The only way to reconnect at 5GHz is to Forget This Network and reconnect with password. But, then it mysteriously switches back to 2.4GHz.

I do not know what conditions cause it to do this switch.

Any ideas would be very helpful.
