I was hoping someone could help me out. I updated to Windows 7 and everything seems to be working right, except for the fan doesnt come at all. I have updated the BIOS and updated the NVIDIA drivers. Im not really sure what else I need to update to get the fan working.
Thanks,
TIm

Hi,
- Unplug the AC adapter from the notebook PC.
- Remove the computer from any port replicator or docking station, disconnect cables to printers or devices such as external monitors, USB memory sticks or SD cards, headset or external speakers, mouse or auxiliary keyboard, turn off WIFI and Bluetooth wireless devices.
- Remove the battery from the notebook battery compartment.
- Press and hold down the power button for about 1 minute to drain any residual electrical charge from the capacitors that protect the memory.
- Insert the battery and plug the AC adapter back into the notebook PC, but do not connect any of the peripheral devices.
- Press the power button to turn the notebook PC back on.

Hi! I just upgrade my HP laptop to Windows 7, and this forum has been very helpful.
I have a question: I tried to install Intel Rapid Storage Technology [the version from the first post], but I get an error message "Computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software". I am wondering if there is any way to solve this problem? My p/n is RM098AV.
Thank you!

Hi,
If you have some experience then you may try to clean manually the fan from dust.
If not then you may try to clean the vents of your notebook with compressed air (very small chance that something will change).
Resource:
Reducing Heat and Fan Noise by Cleaning Air Vents
When above methods will not help then you will need to replace fan for new one.

Ok, I've been reading this thread for a while, figured I'd chime in with my own problems I have a HP DV99... AMD / Nvidia based.
Two major things.
First I'm not sure if my hard drive or some kind of controller is going, but my laptap will not boot to windows by simply turning it on any more. If I press the power, I get the bios screen, then when it moves past that I get stuck at a black screen forever. I have found a work around, but would like the issues solved. As the work around I find if I boot, allow the bios to come up, click [fn] pgup and PAUSE the sequence of events. Then read all of the function I can perform at the bios screen (i.e. F1, F2... F11), and press F11 to restore the computer, it will then start Windows normally, and all me to resume my session. Sounds werid eh?
As well I have found that in the Device Manager I have a number of Yellow ! marks. I've posted a picture below to help with the situation.
Also one last thing my webcam doesn't seem to work any more. Ha that is enough.
The computer used to get mad hot as well, but have recently used compressed air to free up some new life in the fan, and seems to be running cooler.
hope someone can help.

Clean install of Win7/Ultimate-x64 on dv6815nr with 3GB RAM and 250GB HDD (install via 8GB microSD card in USB reader). Most things I care about were picked up by OS and WinUpdate and the system seems to be operating fine (e.g., wired network, wireless network, video, sound, qlb, doesn't get overly hot, even media center). I did have to install QuickPlay.
A couple of things are not working and a bit irksome:
1) During power-on/reboot, unless I intervene (e.g., hit "Esc" key), system goes to a black screen and not to OS loader. If i hit the Esc key, everyting appears to load correctly (I ignore the "No TPM" error).
2) DVD drive does not show up in OS, but does in BIOS.
3) I have the same "warnings !" as freakx2001: "Ricoh 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller", 2 "Base System Device", "SDA Standard Compliant SD Host Controller". BTW, I believe these have the most recent "approved" drivers.
Any wisdom that anyone could impart? Would really like to get these last three items resolved and make this laptop truly viable (again). And yes, the stuff worked when it had OEM Vista/Home installed.
thx...
