Well I tried a clean install last week a new hard drive and almost immediately I heard a low chirping sound from my computer. (Dv6704nr) Windows 7 functioned for about 12 hours but after that , hard drive failure. So, I'm back to Vista I go. Don't won't to though, OS Win 7 looks pretty cool,.

Hi,
Go to:
Control Panel -> Device Manager
and double click your dvd-rom there. What kind of device status you've got there?
Hi,
Have you got installed chipset and graphic drivers?
Have you compared the current temperature of the components with those which you had in Vista? If so, then could you write something about it?
Check below document:
Fixing Webcam Problems in Windows 7
Hi,
As it's written in guide this driver is only for models with Intel chipset, so it's not for your model.
Hi,
It looks that you only need to replace your HDD to use Windows 7. If you don't want to do it then I suggest you to backup as fast as you may all data from this drive on exteranl one. You may lose all data from it at any time. If you don't know how to do this then please check this topic.

hi, after upgrading to windows 7 home premium 64, i've discovered that my dvd rom ( which identifies as tsst ts-l632n ata in device manager) stopped working properly. when i use clonecd, or imgburn to write dl+r ( double layer disks) with two layers the process starts and finishes succesfully, disk ejects in the end BUT the" written" disk stays empty. I flash dvd rom to new firmware ( it was 0503- and a new one vc.03) but without any changes. I 've editted register and deleted upper and lower filters but it still doesn't burn empty double- layer disks. I browsed the internet and found that some guys have the same problem after upgrading to win7. may be i should reinstall some controllers?i tried to burn a photo to a cd disk- it was ok.
p.s. my laptop is dv9925nr

You mean not vc.03, but sc03 right?
I've found in this thread post written by flyingnederlander. He is saying there that sc03 firmaware isn't working well with this optical drive. He had problem for example with erasing rewritable disc. This issue was fixed by him after installing older firmware -sc02. So maybe you should do the same thing.
You will use above advice at your own risk.
If you will try this, then please report about your results.

Hi again,
Try to google about it. I haven't got this DVD-Rom in any notebook so I can't check is it working with Windows 7 well or even "play" with it if this is a real issue with software not hardware. You may try for example how it works with Nero trail version and CDBurnerXP. Check both firmwares. I would recommend to uninstall even previous softwares for burning discs before doing that with restarting system. You may try to use Mr Fix here too.
If you will find any solution then post it in this topic.
Update:
This problem appeared due to the use of low quality disc.
Solution on this issue was posted below by andraniel.
@All
Hi,
If you have ts-l632n and it's working for you in Windows 7 without any problems, then please post here which firmware and software you are using.
Tnx.

I remember installing win 7 on my old DVD rom drive I had, but it wouldn't because it was too outdated. I connected my newer portable eSATA lightscribe DVD burner and it installed win 7 fine. Win 7 wouldn't even read the dvd rom, but the dvd rom worked with vista/xp/linux with no issues. Maybe it was so old MS decided to not support it in win 7?
I guess what I'm trying to say is, if win 7 installed with the drive, then it should be supported, so maybe it is a hardware issue. I guess it's possible a new driver was installed and maybe got corrupt? Did you try uninstalling the device? did you use the option to remove the driver completely?

YOU ROCK!!
Just wish HP would link to this from the dv9000 series support page so one wouldn't have to spend days and days searching to find this. HP says upgrade to windows 7 on my dv9621 is not supported but with the help of this post everything is working perfectly!

hi all, thank you for your advice. I think i should explain what is happening with my dvd rom. First of all , i bought my laptop in the end of 2008 with VISTA 64 home premium pre-installed, so i believe we don't speak about the first laptop in the history of Humankind, i mean , it's not so so so so old and out-of-date to be not supported by windows or HP. Yes, before installing or i'd better say upgrading to windows 7, i burnt a dvd dl+r and it works fine and in five minutes windows upgrade advisor checked and said that i could probably have problems with my dvd rom, and i ignored that statement and here i have the result.... imgburn identifies as following reading device 0, writing device 1
