I have a Pavilion DV6820ea and have upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate but Windows Upgrade Advisor is saying that my NVIDIA nForce System Management Controller is not compatible. However I can still use the internet and everything seems to be functioning ok, (slight problem with boot up, sometimes freezes) can you tell me if there are any compatible drivers? Thanks

Hello. I recently did a clean reload on an HP dv6000 to Windows 7 HP 64-bit. Edit: It has an AMD Turion x2 CPU and is an nForce chipset (GeForce Go 6150).
Everything is working fine, except, from the get-go, I have had an Unknown Device under Universal Serial Bus controllers.
There is no Hardware ID (USB/UNKNOWN). The only real information is Location Information: Part_#0006. Hub_#0001. And the Physical Object name is \Device\USBPDO-2. And the Device Instance Path is USB\VID_0000&PID_0000\5&558176A&0&6.
This unit does not have a webcam or Bluetooth. The wireless, audio, video, card reader, etc. are all installed and working correctly. I've installed the Quicklaunch and Wireless Assistant. HP Support Assistant doesn't suggest any drivers.
It seems Daniel has all the answers, so I'm hoping he has one for this as well. I'm usually pretty good at figuring these out on my own, but this one has me stumped.
Thanks! 🙂

Hi Daniel,
Kudos to you for all the work you have put into helping us out. I have followed all the instructions on doing the Windows 7 upgrade for my HPdv9700t Pavilion laptop, but I'm having trouble with the NVIDIA driver.
S/N [text removed for privacy]
P/N KL086AV
Windows Vista Home Premium with SP1 (64 bit)
3GB DDR2 System Memor (2 Dimm)
NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GS
(all specs from my original order sheet with HP online purchase)
This laptop crashed about a month ago. Vista would not run. Tried Recovery, but didn't work. Called HP Tech Support (and paid my $50 for two weeks of support), but we couldn't get the OS to reboot from the HD recovery partition. Memory and HD diagnostics ran fine--no problem. They said I needed to order Recovery Discs, so I did. When we tried to recover, still didn't work. HP Tech Support suggested I mail in my laptop for the $400+ diagnostic/refurbishment. So, I poked around on the HP website for more info and found your tutorial on the Forum.
Since the HW seemed to check out OK, I decided to just do a clean installation of Windows 7 instead. I bought Windows 7 Home Premium (full version), and I have carefully followed the procedures you outlined in your tutorial. I downloaded the Intel chipset drivers, I removed the NVIDIA drivers using Driver Sweeper, and then tried to download the NVIDIA driver from the link in your tutorial. All I got was a BSOD with half-inch vertical white bars every two inches. I have tried downloading a variety of drivers from NVIDIA website, but same result. It is only when I completely remove all NVIDIA drivers and let the laptop default to Standard VGA Graphics Adaptor that it will even work.
OS boots up and everything runs fine, but screen is showing thin vertical turquoise lines. They are only a few pixels in width and are mostly noticable against light background. When I check Device Manager, what I see under Video Adaptors is "Standard VGA Graphics Adaptor". When I run Driver Sweeper, I don't see NVIDIA - Chipset, NVIDIA - Display, or NVIDIA - PhysX.
I have tried going through your tutorial about six times (hoping I had make a mistake somewhere along the way), but I always the same result. I can successfully download a 64-bit NVIDIA driver, but I get the Black-and-White Screen of Death when the laptop boots up.
Any ideas about what I might be doing wrong or something I have missed?
Thanks,
Johnny Roland

Hi,
@riccarddo wrote:I would like to know if we can install the HP Recovery Manager in the Win 7 because I guess it very useful tool?
Ricardo Marques
There is no need to have this software in Windows 7. It creates set of recovery discs for Vista.
If you want feel that all your data and system are always safe then do regular backups.
How you may do this? Check this topic.
Hi,
@AlexNuggz wrote:Hey, I have a HP DV6000 and have recently done a clean install of windows 7. I've managed to get all the other drivers working successfully, but am having problems with the webcam. The webcam does not appear in device manager. And despite downloading sp43513 and sp45825 I am still unable to use my webcam.
Both files which you posted in your reply aren't webcam drivers. Cyberlink YouCam is just software for webcam. Driver should be found by Windows Update. Path to this driver: C:\Windows\system32\drivers\usbvideo.sys.

Check first page of this topic if you are looking for latest drivers.
Could you write more informations about your problems?
I understand that boot time it takes too long. Am I correct?
What are you doing on your laptop when it starts to freeze?
Hi,

So I understand that you haven't got this problem anymore. Am I correct?
Hi,
@rbcoto wrote:Anybody have the correct driver for the dvd-rom to work in the dv9720us Windows 7 upgrade?
There are no drivers for dvd drives. It should be detected by Windows.
What kind of situation you've got with it in Device Manager. Is it listed there as device without driver or not listed at all?

I'm so sorry, but it looks that you are next victim of defected GPU. How you may deal with this problem? Usually reflowing GPU (graphic chip) solves it. You may find some information about it here.

Hi Daniel,
Thanks for removing the S/N for my laptop. Defective GPU chip? Hmm, that makes sense now. I will contact HP customer service to see if there is a solution from HP. Maybe they will replace the motherboard for me at a discounted price. I don't think I am capable of taking apart my laptop and trying to reflow the GPU chip. I wish the HP Service people had alerted me to this possibility right away instead of leading me on a wild goose chase. They could have simply said "the symptoms you describe for that particular laptop may mean that the GPU chip is defective. If you will send it to us, we will diagnose and let you know if that is the real cause. At that time, we can also inform you of cost to replace or repair."
Anyway, what's done is done. I really appreciate all the info you have shared. You are a font of knowledge about problems on these HP laptops.

Johnny Roland
