Windows 7 Upgrade Guide for dv6000/dv9000 models

Hello All! This is my first post on this site and I have a few questions about possibly upgrading my 3 year old HP Pavillion dv6000 model (can't remember the exact model) but anyway, I am a full time student therefore I don't have very much money to go spending but my mom and I found this website through another site that we visit quite often and they give college students like myself a GREAT discount on the Windows 7 upgrade as well as windows office.  Needless to say I have already done the Upgrade Advisor and one of the things it flagged on my computer was that I only have 512 mb of ram on my computer (1 gb is the recommended amount for windows 7 to work very wll) so i guess my main question is if anybody can tell me if it is still possible to upgrade my computer from windows vista home basic to windows 7 and still have it work with few to no problems?  I only have a few more days beforethey stop the discount for the windows 7  home premium so if anyone can give me some advice on what I should do that would be awsome!!!!

I have an HP Pavilion DV9823CL that I tried following your advise about upgrading the OS from Vista to Win 7 x64 through custom install it all went great even through most of the drivers.  Just had a couple of issues that I need to address.  One my Audio device is Conexant HD Audio but when tryn install the driver it failed tried the old one from swsetup same problem, then went to HP and tried the other Conexant HD audio driver same problem.  Windows say that there is a problem with the digital signature.  the sounds is working with a generic driver from windows but  just no the same not sure were to go or next step to take.  Any advise? Still working on the Quick Play buttons they start the program but always stay the same color I guess thats okay.  But then the other one is for some reason the system shows that I dont have microphone installed not sure where to go with this.  Any advice?  Any help would be greatly appricated.   Thanks Matt

Regardless of you upgrading the OS you should upgrade your memory to al least 2 GB or more. If you go to www.crucial.com they have a scanner that will tell you what type of memory you need, Egghead has decent prices but be carefull on Ebay as many vendors r selling "High Density" memory which will only run on specific machines. Look for "low density" memory if looking on Ebay. I am waiting for 4GB I ordered on Ebay for my Pavillion 6700z. Crucial says the machine will hold that, we will see :). If it works I will Ebay my old memory, 2GB

I have upgraded my Pavillion dv6700z CTO and my wifes Pavillion dv9500z CTO fron Vista to Win 7 Home Premium 64 bit. In both cases it was an OK expierience, I did hae some issues with the Fingerprint reader and the Audio drivers, but persistance paid of and all is running well.

I am very happy with Win 7 having upgraded both my laptops and installing it on a new buid desktop, I have only one XP machine left.

Windows 7 min. system requirements

As You may check there You may install Win7 system with 512 MB Ram. It will be working, but You have to know then some operations on Your notebook will take more time then usually. So it's the same situation like in XP.

To have a good peformance on Your machine You need 1GB, but 2 GB is reommended.

If You want to know which model You've got:

      1. Click on Support & Drivers link. (Upper part of this page.)

      2. Choose option: See support and troubleshooting information

      3. In form:

          Enter a product name / number

          For product provide Your p/n number. (How to find correct p/n informations here.)

      4. Under notebook picture You will see which model You've got. Example: HP Pavilion dv6205eu Notebook PC

Hi,

You need to install audio drivers in Vista compatibility mode.

If You are talking about mute button (quick lunch) then it will be working ok when You will install correct audio drivers.

Hi,

Go to: Control Panel -> Devices Manager -> Personal identifications manager

Click with right button on Authentec Inc. AES2501A and choose properties. Then go to bottom details and check hardware id .

Is it the same like here:

USB\VID_08FF&PID_2580\5&2DCB0CF8&0&1

If not please post Yours.

I need this information to provide changes in this guide.

I went to Device manager, Biometric Devices, Authen Tec Inc. AES2501A, details, Hardware Ids

The fingerprint reader driver was a bit of a pain on both my notebooks but alls well that ends well. 🙂

Uninstall all Broadcom drivers from Your system.

Resources:

Uninstall or change a program in Windows 7

Go to: Control Panel -> Devices Manager

Click with right button of Your mouse on each yellow sign with exclamation mark ( ) and choose properties. Then go to bottom details and paste here hardware id . This way we will know what it is.
