zbook 17 g3
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

hi, dear hp supporters,

I just get a new hp zbook 17 g3, and I decided to add a new ssd drive to enlarge the storage. I get a new Western digital blue SSD drive with 1 TB using SATA2.5. I followed the videos and tutorials to install the ssd in the empty hdd slot of the laptop. The bios can recognize the new ssd drive, however, the classical boot device problem occurs. namely, it gives me the typical hp boot error exactly described in https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01443463,

following the suggestions in that post, i performed hard reset, resetting the bios to default and playing with different bios setups looked up in the website, still, the same bootdevice error persisted. The operating system is installed on the nvme ssd drive originally, even I ranked it first in the boot option as should be, nothing helps.

As long as I remove the additional ssd drive, the laptop can boot into windows normally. I can also deactivate its connection by disabling its port connection in the port option of bios setup, which can also bring me the normal boot, even the new ssd is physically connected.

may I ask whether you have experience with this situation, thanks in advance.

best,

July
