Please help!

I'm trying to connect a projector to my HP chromebook (G1 Energystar, 13,3" screen) through the usb-c port, but am unable to do so. have used a usb-c to vga converter cable, but get no connection. Cannot switch to the projecter via hotkeys, it does not show up in display settings. There is no connection between the two devices. Have tried different projectors.

I am beginning to wonder if I cannot use the usb-c port as a display port, which really makes no sense (since the machine only has 2xusb-c, 1x regular usb, and no hdmi ports...)
