I would like to create a bootable USB stick to read/upgrade the current BIOS. I have tried to follow the instructions given here. I downloaded the sp41877.exe file and tried to create a bootable FreeDOS USB thumbdrive. However, the so called "instruction" are utter garbage. When I execute the downloaded file it just extracts some other files. At this point it is just anyones guess what to do with the newly extracted files. In those new folders there are two more executable files, i.e. sp41877u.exe and sp41877d.exe. I assume that the 'u' and 'd' refers to the chipset in the notebook, 'u' is for the MDU68 and 'd' refers to the MDD68 chipset. After some research I found out that I have the MDU68 chipset in my notebook. Again, without any helpful hints or instruction from HP. After executing 'sp41877.exe' yet another folder was extracted, yet again without any hints or instructions on how to create the bootable USB media. I did try a lot to get the files on to a bootable USB stick. The best I got is to get the USB stick to boot and display 'FreeDOS' and a blinking cursor on a black screen and then nothing else happened.
Does any know how to make a bootable USB thumbrive to upgrade/read the BIOS from FreeDOS? By read I mean, I want to read out and save the entire binary file that is currently stored in ROM. I want to be able to check and verify if it has been tempered with.
