This regards Probook 4430s with processor i3-2310M 2.1 GHz.
Testing sorting software algorithms by, among which, counting the
number of comparisons when processing 16M arrays. The number of
comparisons is over 4e8 and is being recorded using a double-variable
in C. The test-bench has run on 8 different machines and produces
identical counts regarding the number of comparisons.
EXCEPT on my Probook 4430s.
This suggests to me that the floating point unit is/was always broken.
What is the verdict????
[[ I could not find my earlier posting from 2015 (and earlier)
regarding the USB composite device failures. I rebuild the Win7 OS,
changed the mother board:: no success. I BELIEVE now that the problem
is the sensor in the right hinge that is somewhat 'unhinged'. The
first thing I ask when shopping for another laptop is the quality of
the hinges.
What do you think I think now about HP laptops? ]]
