Product: Hp Deskjet 2542

I’ve been having the same problem for over 4 months now that I can’t seem to fix. My printer will not accept new ink capsules. I tried everything from spending almost $150.00 on HP ink cartilages, to Turing off the printer, computer and removing any sort of connection between the two,  and then rebooting both devices to see if it’ll work. I am aware that your supposed to take the plastic part off the ink before putting it into the printer. What can I do to resolve this ongoing problem
